Laminate flooring is made up of layers sandwiched together to create a solid, hard wearing, stable board. The very bottom layer is a tough moisture resistant material, which gives the board strength and stability.

The main bulk of the board is HDF (High Density Fibreboard) this layer is machined to create the fitting system that allows the flooring to be clicked together. Click laminate and loc laminate are more frequently used for modern floorings rather than tongue and groove due to ease of fitting.

The next layer is the decorative layer, known as the photo. The Photo is a high-resolution image of natural wood flooring to give the flooring a realistic appearance.

The final layer is the wear layer. This is highly scratch and dent resistant, normally made with aluminium oxide. Aluminium oxide has a rating of 9 on the mohs hardness scale, so provides the finished product with a surface that can withstand the rigours of day to day wear.

Budget laminate flooring is great for a low budget room makeover. The low cost of some laminates means that for a fraction of the price of other coverings, you can create a beautiful look without having to pay the high prices normally associated with such materials. Parquet Effect Laminate Flooring

Parquet effect laminate flooring gives the appearance of being made up of smaller individual blocks of real wood. This is a classic laminate style. Parquet effect normally has square edged planks that fit together tightly and seamlessly giving the floor a smooth, professional finish.

Plank Laminate Flooring

Plank laminate flooring is made to look like full planks of wood, giving it a real wood-flooring feel. There is a vast choice of colours and some very realistic finishes available. Planked laminate flooring has square edged planks that fit tightly against each other perfectly giving a smooth finish.

V-groove Laminate Flooring

V-Groove laminate flooring is similar to Plank effect in that it normally resembles real wood planks, but it has the added benefit of small bevels on the edges to give the flooring a very realistic look. These can be smooth clean lines or sometimes with a bit more texture to recreate a rustic floor look.
