Which Wooden Floor to Choose

There are hundreds of different styles of wooden flooring to choose from, which can be split down into three basic categories: laminate flooring, engineered wood flooring and solid wood flooring. At Green Apple Flooring we will endeavour to provide you with the wood flooring that suits your needs. Whether you are looking for an engineered oak flooring, a solid wood flooring or a laminate flooring we will have the right one for you.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is the most versatile of the coverings, with suppliers such as Quick Step and Berry laminate floors we have every price range and style covered. It is available in many different formats that can be used in nearly every area of the home, as well as for commercial applications. Laminate flooring can be very reasonably priced, so if you are seeking to make over a room cheaply and simply, or if you are after a tough hard wearing area, laminate flooring may be the thing for you.

It is very easy to fit, with nearly all laminates now being a lock together system, making this an ideal DIY product.

Laminate flooring has come a very long way over the years and with modern finishes like v-grooves, embossing and textures, some are almost indistinguishable from real wood flooring itself.

The hard wearing top layer ensures that it is ideal for kitchens, bedrooms, hallways, lounges and if a moisture resistant laminate is chosen, even bathrooms.

Pros

  • Cheap and hard wearing
  • Quick to fit
  • Instantly transforms your room
  • Available in many different imitations of natural materials
  • Easy to clean
  • Low maintenance
  • Can be laid floating
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating

Engineered Flooring

Engineered flooring has many applications and has all of the beauty of a real wood floor, but is more versatile and stable. The base provides the flooring with stability so it is less likely to be affected by changes in temperature than solid wood flooring.

The real wood finish is hard wearing, but if damage does occur, this type of flooring can be refinished, giving the floor a new lease of life. Many engineered wood floors are now available with click or lock systems, making installation fast and simple.

Pros

  • Very attractive real wood finish
  • A much more stable alternative to solid wood.
  • Can be refinished if needed
  • Comes in various finishes like lacquered or oiled oak
  • Can be laid floating like a laminate
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating

Solid Wood Flooring

Solid wood flooring is classic. Good quality, chunky planks of real solid wood give your floor a homely traditional feel. The characteristics of this kind of wooden flooring are really second to none, as you cannot beat the real thing.

Each board is made from a solid piece of wood, with all of the patterning and personality you would expect from it. Solid wood flooring is often fixed to the floor using nails, screws or glue, or with self adhesive underlays now available such as Elastalon.

You can re-finish this flooring if it gets a little tired or if you wish to change the look, which makes it versatile as well as beautiful.

Pros

  • A classic floor covering
  • Beautiful organic look
  • Provides an interesting desirable feature in your home
  • Can be refinished
